I’ve stayed in Thailand for extended periods a few times, so here’s what you should know:
1. Airbnb vs Serviced Apartments:
Airbnb: Great for variety and homely vibes. You can find apartments with kitchens and laundry, which is ideal for a month-long stay. Just check reviews carefully and confirm Wi-Fi speed if you plan to work remotely.
Serviced Apartments: Usually more reliable for longer stays. They often include housekeeping, reception, and sometimes utilities in the price. Many are designed for expats and long-term travelers, so they’re hassle-free.
2. Reliability & Safety:
Both options are generally safe in Thailand, especially in tourist-heavy cities like Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket. Always stick to hosts/properties with multiple verified reviews.
3. Things Indian Travelers Should Watch Out For:
Kitchen Facilities: Not all Airbnbs in Thailand have a proper kitchen. If you plan to cook, confirm the amenities (stove, utensils, etc.).
Spice & Groceries: Indian spices aren’t always easy to find in smaller towns, so carry basics if you love home-cooked meals.
Electricity Charges: Some Airbnb hosts exclude electricity from the rent and charge per unit. Ask for an estimate to avoid surprises.
Deposit & Cancellation: Serviced apartments often require a deposit; check refund policies.
Location: Traffic can be crazy in Bangkok. Stay near a BTS/MRT station if you want convenience.
4. Internet & Mobile:
Wi-Fi is usually good, but confirm speed if you need it for work. Getting a local SIM (AIS, TrueMove, or DTAC) is easy and affordable.
Pro Tip: If you want flexibility, book a week first, then extend if everything looks good. Monthly rates are often negotiable if you’re paying directly after the first week.
