I’ll be visiting Singapore soon for about a week, and I’m trying to plan my budget for getting around the city. I’ve heard that Singapore has a very efficient MRT (metro) and bus system, but I’ve also seen many travellers mention using Grab or regular taxis for convenience.
For someone who plans to explore popular attractions like Marina Bay Sands, Sentosa, Gardens by the Bay, Orchard Road, and maybe a few day trips to areas like the Singapore Zoo or Jurong Bird Park, would it be much cheaper to stick with public transport compared to Grab/taxis?
I don’t mind taking the MRT or buses if it saves a significant amount of money, but I’m wondering about the practicality too. For example:
How much would an average MRT/bus ride cost versus a Grab or taxi ride within the city?
Are there situations where taxis are actually better value (like late at night or when traveling with luggage)?
For a solo traveller versus a couple or family, does the cost comparison change much?
Is buying an EZ-Link or tourist pass for unlimited rides worth it, or is pay-per-ride still cheaper?
Would love to hear from those who’ve tried both – is public transport not just cheaper, but also convenient enough for most tourist plans?
