Hi everyone,
I’m planning a trip to Singapore soon and I’m a bit confused about the payment options there. In India, I mostly use UPI/credit card for everything and hardly carry cash. But I’ve heard mixed opinions about Singapore – some say you can get by with cards everywhere, while others suggest carrying Singapore Dollars for small expenses.
For those who have recently travelled to Singapore:
Are international debit/credit cards widely accepted in shops, restaurants, and transport?
Is UPI (like Google Pay/PhonePe/Paytm) functional in Singapore, or do we need to link it differently?
How much cash (in SGD) would you recommend carrying just to be safe?
Any places where only cash is accepted (like hawker centres, local markets, taxis, etc.)?
I don’t want to carry too much foreign currency unnecessarily, but I also don’t want to get stuck in situations where cash is the only option. Would really appreciate some first-hand experiences and suggestions!
Thanks in advance 🙏
