Hi everyone, I’m planning a 2-week trip to Sri Lanka in 2025 and I’m trying to figure out my daily budget. I’d consider myself a mid-range traveler — I don’t want luxury resorts, but also not backpacker hostels all the way. I’d like to stay in clean guesthouses or 3-star hotels, eat at a mix of local restaurants and tourist-friendly spots, and occasionally splurge on activities like a safari in Yala or a train ride through Ella. I’ll also be using a mix of public transport (buses/trains) and maybe hiring a car with a driver for a few days.
For someone traveling this way, how much should I expect to spend per day in Sri Lanka on average? (Accommodation, meals, transport, entry fees, and a few activities included). Is $50–70 per day realistic for a mid-range budget, or should I plan for more? Also, is it cheaper to book things in advance online, or can I get better deals on the ground once I arrive? Any tips from travelers who’ve recently been there would be much appreciated
